A new twist on school fundraising

The students and teachers at Lakeview Public School (35 Corkstown Road) have discovered that to get, you just have to give. shutterstock_87179497

That’s right; they are hosting a Canadian Community Support Foundation (CCSF) clothing drive. People can give their clothing and textiles that they no longer need or use, and Lakeview School, with its 330 students, will reap the benefit of $1.00 per bag donated.

You’ve got to admit, a clothing drive is a lot more imaginative than selling stuff to raise money, and it teaches a few lessons about recycling, and helping our planet.

It’s happening on  November 7th from 4:30pm to 8:30pm. And you don’t have to be a student or teacher to get involved, if you are in the neighbourhood, just put the things you no longer want or need into a black garbage bag and bring them to the school during the hours noted above for collection.

Worried about what to give? Don’t be. Basically clothing in any condition, all textiles, even bedsheets and draperies can donated. Do you know that 45% of what you give is re-used? The rest is recycled into items like upholstery stuffing, carpet padding or industrial cloths.

Another important lesson here is that by recycling clothing and textiles you are keeping them out of landfill, and that means keeping them from contributing to global warming and pollution.

Thanks Lakeview for helping us teach folks a new way to raise funds for schools.

The CCSF can help your school or organization to raise funds by hosting your own clothing drive. Contact us for more information, visit us on our Facebook or call us directly at 613-216-2603.

CCSF … good for people, good for our planet.
